Secure Components is excited to announce that we have become the first company to be certified to the SAE AS6081 Counterfeit Avoidance Standard. In the spring of 2013, Secure Components participated in the first accredited AS6081 third-party registration assessment, conducted by Det Norske Veritas (DNV).
The certification process conducted by DNV was in accordance with the IECQ 03-7 rules of procedure and SAE AS6081 Standards. DNV is an IECQ approved and ANAB accredited third-party certification body. As this was the first time that such an assessment was conducted, the DNV Lead Assessor and the Certification Process were witnessed by subject matter experts from IECQ, ANAB and industry.
Certified to DoD Adopted AS6081
June 10th, 2013 the AS6081 standard was adopted by the United States Department of Defense, and is aimed at counterfeit mitigation, specifically with regards to electronic components. On, July 5, 2013, Secure Components was issued AS6081 IECQ Certificate Number IECQ-P DNVUS 13.0001, the first of its kind awarded to any firm in the world.
Success through Persistence
Achieving AS6081 certification marks the culmination of a long and challenging process for our company and is just one more step in our journey to become the most trusted voice among independent distributors. Secure Components began preparations for certification in January of 2012, shortly after the United States Committee on Armed Services presented President Obama with the National Defense Authorization Act, which included Section 818 (Detection and Avoidance of Counterfeit Electronic Parts). The purpose of Section 818 is to establish inspection, testing, detection, reporting and authentication requirements for electronic components to be used by the Department of Defense and defense contractors. In preparation for the assessment Secure Components team spent months working towards overhauling both their Business and Quality Management System and improving their Counterfeit Avoidance Plan to conform to AS6081 & AS9120 standards.
DLA QTSL Qualified
In addition to achieving this International Certification we have aggressively sought to become added to the (Qualified Testing Supplier List) QTSL program of the Defense Logistics Agency. June 4th 2013, Secure Components became one of ten firms currently named to the Defense Logistics Agencys Qualified Testing Supplier List (QTSL). Qualified distributors are required to pass an in-depth on-site audit which evaluates an organizations compliance to criteria similar to SAEs AS6081 internationally recognized standard. After successfully completing the assessment performed by DLA inspectors, Secure Components is now eligible to supply Federal Stock Class (FSC) 5961 semi-conductor devices and FSC 5962 electronic microcircuits to the Defense Logistics Agency.
