Department of Defense Mandate

In doing so, the Department of Defense has issued that Secretary of Defense shall require that each major weapon system be supported by a product support manager which will have the responsibility to:

  • Develop and implement a comprehensive product support strategy for the weapon system.

  • Use appropriate predictive analysis and modeling tools that can improve material availability and reliability, increase operational availability rates, and reduce operation and sustainment costs.

While these strategies continue to be implemented, industry will continue to use “unauthorized vendors” to close the gaps and to help maintain legacy programs.

Vendors that adopt the AS6081 standard, will be able to provide a counterfeit avoidance system, which will provide customers with confidence when utilizing this kind of service.    The Distributors Advisory Group is a consortium of brokers and distributors who believe in this standard, and are driving towards the completion of being certified by an accredited Certification Body.
